United Methodist Women is the largest denominational faith organization for women in the world with approximately 800,000 members whose mission
is sponsoring spiritual growth, developing leaders and advocating for justice.
Internationally, members raise up to $20 million each year for programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world.
At Desert Skies, our United Methodist Women unit provides an opportunity for women of the church to join in fellowship, to support one another on our spiritual journey, and to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those in our community. We also have an opportunity to make a difference worldwide though our affiliation with the Women’s Division of the General Board of Global Ministries.
We operate using the Circle Model, where women meet in small groups, selecting a focus of interest for the group. In addition, we have 4 general meetings a year, bringing the full group together for breakfast and a program. More information can be obtained from any of the Circle or Unit leaders. Alternative Gifts – Through us, you can make contributions to any of four charities – Heifer International, Habitat for Humanity, United Methodist Committee on Relief, and the Community Food Bank – as a gift to your friends or family members. It is the perfect gift for the person who has everything. While this program is emphasized during the Christmas season, gifts may be made for any occasion - birthdays, anniversaries, graduations – throughout the year. Cards, acknowledging the donation, are provided for you to send to the recipient of the gift. Contact - Jeanne Myers.
Ronald McDonald House - We collect the following: tabs from soda cans, placed in plastic bags; individual snack items like breakfast bars, cookies, crackers, microwave popcorn packages; bags of white sugar, brown sugar, and powdered sugar; gift cards from grocery stores (Bashas, Albertsons, etc.), Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, Costco, Sam's Club, Target and Wal-Mart. There is a box with the Ronald McDonald logo on it at the church for the food items. The gift cards can be given to either Elsie Heinz or Marilyn McKee. The soda tabs can be placed in the collection box for Campbell's soup labels.
